Split bamboo fly fishing rods, despite newer man made synthetic materials like graphite and boron, were one of the first fly rods used and still used by many fly fishermen that claim this is the best type of fly rod. Of course, this is a matter of opinion but there are positive features in a bamboo fly fishing rod. These rods are light, flexible, and have a nice slow action that make them easier to cast and great to practice fly fishing that makes them popular. However, the construction of bamboo fly rods is a delicate process so they tend to be one of the most expensive fly fishing rods often becoming valuable heirlooms, increasing in value as the years pass by, like the HL Leonard Bamboo fly rods.
